The driving force behind the NSCD is a team of more than
800 hands-on volunteers who dedicate countless hours to
helping people with a disability to ski, snowboard, snowshoe
and achieve their personal best.
Without our volunteers, the NSCD would not be the program
it is today: the largest, most successful program of
its kind in the world.
The statistics are impressive:
- This
year's volunteers have a total of 5,700 years of experience
with the NSCD.
- The average volunteer has been involved with the program
for 8.6 years.
- Over 50 volunteers have Professional Ski
Instructors of America certification.
Black
Diamond volunteer instructors dedicate 10 full days on the
slopes and maintain the NSCD's standard of excellence by attending
classroom seminars, on-the-hill clinics and continuing education
courses. Their devotion keeps NSCD instruction at the top
of the field and many volunteers say NSCD programs are one
of the most rewarding aspects of their lives.
In addition to teaching lessons, NSCD volunteers set
up courses for the competitions, help students
with their adaptive equipment and assist with fundraising
events
and office projects. The options are limitless, and the NSCD works
with
volunteers to find opportunities that match individual
schedules and interests.
The benefits of volunteering are significant, including
eligibility for season passes to Winter Park Resort,
pro deals on ski and board equipment,
improving
your personal skiing and/or riding skills, and the first-hand experience
of helping people with disabilities enjoy the adventures of mountain
recreation. For more information, contact the volunteer
office at volunteer@nscd.org.
