NSCD Summer Mountain Programs

Therapeutic Horse Riding

Join the NSCD for lessons in Western or English riding skills and therapeutic recreational activities. Learn basic horse care, grooming, horse health and behavior. Lessons can be booked for individual days or 5-week sessions. Arrive 15 minutes before the lesson begins.

  • Dates: Session I: June10 - July 12
  • Session II: July 22 - August 23
  • Private or Group lessons available
  • Lesson times: 9:00 a.m.; 11:00 a.m.; 1:30 p.m.
  • Each lesson is 1½ hours
  • Trail Rides for individuals, families and groups also available. Trail rides are one hour.


Enjoy the open water and stunning mountain scenery around Grand Lake as we sail out from the local yacht club and learn to use the wind to control where we go. Lunch is not provided.

Paralympic Experience for Military Veterans

Team up with fellow military Veterans for a Paralympic experience like no other.

Paralympic sports may include:
Archery, Boccia, Canoe/Kayak, Cycling, Goal Ball, Judo, Rowing, Wheelchair Tennis, Wheelchair Rugby

Camp under a star filled sky, roast marshmallows over a campfire and snuggle into a sleeping bag. Enjoy yourself at our accessible campground near Winter Park Resort, at the foot of majestic James Peak.

Reserve an NSCD host to facilitate your camp set-up, meal prep and clean up. Equipment for up to 10 people included in this option. Meals are not included, and groups are responsible for their own food purchases. There is a fee for this service.

You may also camp with your group without an NSCD host for FREE! Space is limited and is based on a first come first served basis. Rental equipment is available.

River Rafting/Inflatable Kayak

Enjoy the beautiful scenery along the Colorado River and cool off during a hot summer day.

  • Dates: Late May - September
  • Participants must be age 7 or older to attend
  • Half-Day and Full-Day trips available
  • Lunch is not provided


Paddle on mountain lakes or rivers. Learn basic canoe or kayak skills and graduate to different levels of water. Find serenity or excitement, but always guaranteed fun.

  • Note: All or part of this operation is conducted on public lands under special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Winter Park Resort Activities

Enjoy the Rocky Mountains while experiencing the thrill of new adventures. Fun at the resort includes: alpine slide, miniature golf, human maze, leaps and bounds trampoline bungee, the climbing wall and gyro.
