Winter Park, Colorado
December 15-19, 2007 - The National Sports Center for the Disabled will give active US military personnel and veterans a chance to experience the thrill of the Rocky Mountains with its annual Salute to Troops in Winter Park, Colorado.
Participants include men and women from the armed forces who have suffered amputation, PTSD, vision loss and brain injury during their time spent serving in various parts of the world including Vietnam and the Middle East. Salute to Troops allows these soldiers to explore and enhance their physical, cognitive, social and emotional skills by engaging in recreational sports and activities.
The December weekend will focus on a range of activities on and off the slopes. With a focus on skiing, participants will have the options to participate in stand skiing, ski biking, mono skiing, bi skiing, and snowboarding. Off the slopes, scheduled activities consist of sleigh rides, bonfires and snowmobiling.
Event partners and sponsors include Wounded Warrior Project, an organization that seeks to assist those men and women of our armed forces who have been severely injured during the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and other locations around the world, The Fraser Valley Lions Club, Dashing Thru the Snow Sleigh Rides and Beaver Village Resort, to name a few. Staff includes US military veterans as well as NSCD volunteers.
All media is invited to attend this inspirational weekend. Please contact NSCD Marketing Director Rachel Hirt at (303) 633-5802 or rhirt@nscd.org for more information.
