Summer Highlights: June - September

participant holding a fish he  caughtDuring a summer day an NSCD participant will have the chance to:

  • Raft through some of the most spectacular country in the west.
  • Paddle a canoe beneath gorgeous mountain peaks on different lakes in Denver and the Mountains.
  • Spend the day fishing at an accessible pond in Fraser or by a stream or lake.
  • Explore the wilderness on one of the many breathtaking and educational hikes throughout the Arapahoe National Forest or Rocky Mountain National Park.
  • Learn about basic horse bare, grooming, horse health and behavior, Western or English riding skills, and therapeutic and recreational games.

Summer Camps
Camps are also a main focus in Winter Park during the summer, with the NSCD conducting a record number of twelve. Canoe Camp, River Kayak Camp, Adventure Camp Teens with Physical Disabilities, and Mountain Bike Adventure Camp for Youth at Risk to name a few of these opportunities.

Winter Highlights: November - April

mono-skier and staff person on the chair liftDuring a winter day an NSCD participant will have the chance to:

  • Alpine ski in the 2-track, 3-track, 4-track, bi-ski, or mono ski disciplines as an individual, in a group, or with their family.
  • Snowboard for a half-day or full-day down the slopes at Winter Park Resort.
  • Learn to cross-country ski or snowshoe in a beautiful, quiet mountain setting at Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort.
  • Embark on a fun-filled adventure to the extraordinary High Lonesome Hut, a beautiful, rustic cabin seated at 9,600 feet.
  • Join the NSCD at an indoor arena for therapeutic horseback riding lessons that include basic horse bare, grooming, horse health and behavior, Western or English riding skills, and therapeutic and recreational games and activities.

Winter Camps
Camps are also a main focus during the winter months at the NSCD. Winter Wonder Camp for children with autism, Winter Woods Camps for teens with physical disabilities, and adults with developmental disabilities to name a few of the opportunities.

Ski & Snowboard program for people with low vision or blindness
This program is designed for individuals with blindness or low vision who need transportation from Denver to Winter Park to participate in winter programs. Alpine ski instruction is available in 2-track, 3-track, and 4-track disciplines.
