The driving force behind the NSCD is a team of more than 1,300 hands-on volunteers who dedicate over 30,000 hours annually to helping people with a disability to ski, snowboard, kayak, rock climb, play team sports and achieve their personal best.
The options are limitless, and the NSCD works with volunteers to find opportunities that match individual schedules and interests.

Volunteers ages 15 to 80 from Colorado, the nation, and the world, join our program season after season empowering individuals with disabilities through sport. Volunteers come from all walks of life: retirees, college students, physical therapists, software engineers, teachers, waiters, stay at home parents, high school students and more. What this diverse group of people has in common is their passion and desire to make a difference in someone’s life. The NSCD has a full range of year round opportunities both in Denver and Winter Park from kayaking to rock climbing and snowshoeing to skiing. The longest running and most visible program is our adaptive alpine ski and snowboard program based in Winter Park. Winter volunteers teach over 22,000 lessons in a season. We are always looking for new volunteers to join our team!
Without our volunteers, the NSCD would not be the program it is today: the largest, most successful program of its kind in the world.
The benefits of volunteering are significant, including:
- Eligibility for season passes to Winter Park Resort
- Pro deals on ski and board equipment
- Improving your personal physical fitness
- First-hand experience of helping people with Disabilities enjoy recreation
